About

La Mesita Park at 8855 Dallas Street in La Mesa anchors a 23-acre recreation complex that includes the adjacent Junior Seau Sports Complex, named for the NFL linebacker and Oceanside native. The La Mesa Park and Recreation Foundation, established in 1999, contributed more than $1 million toward the sports complex build-out, which includes full-sized lighted ball fields, lighted football and soccer fields, and a free unsupervised skate park governed by Municipal Code Chapter 10.21, adopted in January 2008 to require helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads for all skaters. Court facilities include two lighted tennis courts, one shared court, and four dedicated lighted pickleball and youth-tennis courts, a volume of playing surfaces that supports the post-injury return-to-sport protocols used at nearby clinics including Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine Center. A walking and hiking trail loops through the grassy expanse between the ball fields and the playground, connecting to the same post-game family corridor that includes Coin Haus on La Mesa Boulevard. The skate park's concrete layout features two long walls arranged at a right angle, connected by a curved quarterpipe with steel coping, plus stairs with a center handrail, hubbas on each side, and a funbox with a hip.
