Compressed natural gas fueling in La Mesa's Grossmont area runs through EDCO's public CNG station on Commercial Street, one of three facilities operated by the East County waste-hauling company and positioned one block north of the Interstate 8 interchange. The heavy-duty-rated dispensers serve both light-duty NGVs and Class 8 commercial rigs, a fleet-fueling capacity shared with the CNG-powered box trucks available through Enterprise Truck Rental for companies transitioning to natural-gas logistics. CNG combustion reduces smog-producing pollutants by up to 90 percent and hydrocarbon emissions by 50 to 70 percent compared to conventional gasoline, meeting CARB and South Coast AQMD standards that apply across San Diego County. EDCO's own fleet numbers over 150 CNG-powered units ranging from residential collection trucks to over-the-road tractor-trailer combinations, and the company invested in eleven new CNG tractor-trailer rigs as part of the Commercial Street facility's buildout. Roadside breakdowns near the I-8 corridor require specialized recovery for heavy CNG-equipped vehicles, and Tow For Less dispatches flatbed and wheel-lift trucks along the Fletcher Parkway and Commercial Street interchange zone. The heavy-duty dispensers deliver compressed natural gas at pressures rated for 3,600 PSI on-vehicle storage tanks, supporting the Cummins ISL G and ISX12 G natural-gas engine platforms used in Class 6 through Class 8 refuse, regional-haul, and vocational truck applications across East County.
