Since 1973, La Mesa Oktoberfest has transformed La Mesa Boulevard into a three-day Bavarian street festival drawing over 100,000 attendees each October in La Mesa Village. Three biergartens pour German imports alongside craft beer from La Mesa producers like Helix Brewing Co., with live oompah bands and indie rock acts performing across multiple stages between Palm Avenue and 4th Street. Organized by McFarlane Promotions in partnership with the La Mesa Village Association, the festival shuts down vehicular traffic across the entire La Mesa Village corridor. The festival footprint stretches past the 1894 La Mesa Depot Museum, anchoring the event to the Village's historic core and the same blocks that host the weekly La Mesa Village farmers market. The event deploys a Hofbräuhaus-modeled VIP biergarten, a Kinder Karneval with a full-scale Ferris wheel, competitive Glücklich Games including stein races and keg haul relays, and a Däckeldorf Dachshund Village with dog races and fashion shows.
