Planted through a Bethlehem Baptist Church residency and approved by its elders in 2021, Center City Church in La Mesa meets at 8742 Lemon Avenue. The church grew out of Campus Outreach ministry at San Diego State University and UC San Diego, and its neighborhood community groups still gather in local venues such as Brew Coffee Spot across La Mesa. Affiliated with the San Diego Southern Baptist Association, Center City follows a Treasuring Christ Together model that emphasizes expository preaching through sequential books of Scripture in roughly 40-minute teaching blocks. Weekly communion follows the sermon in every service, a liturgical practice the church treats as central rather than occasional, paired with congregational singing that blends contemporary arrangements with hymn-based theology. The worship team draws instrumentalists from college ministry programs at San Diego State and Point Loma Nazarene, developing student musicians through a discipleship-plus-performance track that feeds the same East County talent ecosystem as Wagner's School of Music. Campus Outreach operations span three universities with multiple full-time staff, requiring a discipleship infrastructure that tracks individual mentoring relationships, organizes semester-long Bible study cohorts, and transitions graduating students into local-church membership.
