Sea cave and historic tunnel attraction at 1325 Coast Blvd, La Jolla, CA 92037, accessed through The Cave Store above La Jolla Cove. Sunny Jim's Sea Cave is the only sea cave in California accessible by land — 145 steps through a narrow tunnel hand-dug in 1902 lead to a viewing platform inside the natural sandstone cavern. Named by L. Frank Baum, author of The Wizard of Oz, who thought the cave opening resembled a cereal mascot. The tunnel was reportedly used to smuggle alcohol during Prohibition. Walk to Scripps Park and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Allow 15–20 minutes round trip. Open daily 9am–4:30pm.
