Bernini's Bistro at 7550 Fay Ave in La Jolla's Village, 92037, has been serving Italian-American classics since 2003 with homemade organic pasta and a wood-fired oven at the center of the kitchen. The Fay Avenue address puts Bernini's within a short walk of Manhattan of La Jolla, though the two cater to different moods — Bernini's firepit patio versus Manhattan's continental formality. The prosciutto pizza comes out of that oven with blistered edges and clean toppings; the Trout Almondine is the sleeper hit for those who look past the pizza. An outdoor firepit patio makes this one of the better evening destinations on Fay Avenue. Happy hour runs Sunday through Thursday 4–6pm — and diners who want Fay's other Italian anchor in a 1909 beach house continue north to Piazza 1909.
