Birch Aquarium is the public outreach center for UC San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography, drawing over 500,000 visitors annually. Exhibits include the Beyster Family Little Blue Penguins — the only West Coast habitat for the species — the Adam R. Scripps Living Seas Gallery, a 13,000-gallon shark reef tank, and the outdoor Preuss Tide Pool Plaza with hands-on marine encounters and ocean views.
