Urban winery tasting room at 5621 La Jolla Blvd in Bird Rock, La Jolla 92037, founded in 2015 by Lowell and Anne Jooste — a South African family with four generations of winemaking behind them. The concept is one of a kind: small-batch wines crafted in Napa Valley and Sonoma are shipped in full barrels to La Jolla, then served directly from the barrel using Lowell's patented Wine Steward device, which preserves freshness without added preservatives. Varieties include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Rosé — poured by the glass or filled into reusable growlers. Cheese boards, charcuterie, and seasonal small plates accompany the tastings. The City of San Diego recognized LJ Crafted Wines with a 2019 Waste Reduction Award for saving over 190,000 single-use bottles. Open Tuesday through Saturday evenings. Wine club available.
