Physical Therapy

About

Feldenkrais Method somatic-education studio established in 1996 by an Assistant Trainer in the international Feldenkrais Guild teacher-training pipeline, Feldenkrais San Diego operates from 916 W University Ave in Hillcrest. Group Awareness Through Movement classes and one-on-one Functional Integration sessions teach pain-relief and coordination work through gentle nervous-system re-patterning rather than corrective stretching, an approach that complements the mat-and-reformer programming at Ativa Pilates and Fitness for clients building movement-quality alongside strength. Lessons are taught in English and Spanish, drawing students recovering from chronic back, neck, and jaw pain as well as athletes refining proprioception and dancers, musicians, and martial artists working on motor control under load. The studio's lead instructor brings a black-belt rank in Aikido and a Professor-level rank in Capoeira to the work, which informs the dance-and-martial-arts framing of many private lessons and bridges naturally into the breath-and-posture work at Honeybee Hive Yoga for students extending the mind-body track. Lessons run on the floor in socks rather than on machines, with the practitioner verbally and tactilely guiding micro-movements that retrain the brain's body-map. The most complex caseload is long-arc rehabilitation of patients with neurologic injury, scoliosis, or chronic post-surgical pain who have plateaued in conventional PT and need months of nervous-system-level re-learning to restore functional movement.
