About

Part of San Diego's only academic medical center, UC San Diego Health Plastic Surgery runs its Hillcrest clinic at 200 West Arbor Drive as an outpatient extension of the UC San Diego Division of Plastic Surgery that trains integrated residents across Jacobs Medical Center, Rady Children's Hospital, the VA San Diego Healthcare System, and the Hillcrest Medical Center campus. Reconstructive microsurgery with DIEP and PAP free flaps for post-mastectomy breast reconstruction is a signature program, with downstream lymphedema physiotherapy handled through Advanced Hand Therapy for manual lymphatic drainage and compression garment management. Lymphatic bypass microsurgery, including lymphovenous anastomosis and vascularized lymph node transfer at the time of axillary dissection, is offered to reduce downstream arm swelling after node dissection. Head and neck oncologic reconstruction uses microvascular free flaps to restore function after tumor resection, and facial nerve paralysis is treated through cross-facial nerve grafts and functional muscle transfer. Gender-affirming surgical planning is coordinated with Unio Specialty Care Urology for the combined urologic and plastic reconstructive phases of phalloplasty and vaginoplasty pathways. The most technically demanding caseload involves pediatric craniofacial reconstruction for craniosynostosis and cleft lip and palate performed at Rady Children's Hospital with fellowship-trained craniofacial surgeons.
