About

The Kenneth M. Moser Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep Medicine and Physiology at UC San Diego, Dr. Jess Mandel earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 1991 and completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Clinical focus centers on pulmonary vascular disease, pulmonary hypertension, and hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, with cardiology co-management flowing through groups such as San Diego Heart and Vascular Associates for right-heart catheterization and vasodilator trials. Mandel serves as Executive Vice Chair for the UCSD Department of Medicine and helped organize cross-border COVID-19 critical care surge support in Tijuana and Mexicali in partnership with the San Diego County Medical Society. Outpatient visits are held at the 4168 Front Street Hillcrest office, with additional UCSD clinical space at McGrath Outpatient Pavilion at UC San Diego Health supporting the wider pulmonary service line. The most complex cases involve chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension evaluated for pulmonary thromboendarterectomy surgery, the signature procedure of the UCSD pulmonary vascular program.
