Launched in 2012 by an SDSU Child Development graduate and expanded from in-home care into its Front Street facility two years later, Green Beans Preschool is a women-owned, chemical-free infant-through-preschool program minutes from Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest. The low-ratio nursery introduces sign language to pre-verbal infants and toddlers to reduce frustration and support early communication, while music enrichment draws on instructors from studios like Salli Martin Music. Home-cooked organic meals and snacks are prepared on-site and follow a documented chemical-free nutrition philosophy from first bottles through the preschool lunch rotation. Each classroom keeps a quiet reading corner stocked with picture books sourced from neighborhood shops including Footnote Books. The most specialized room is the infant nursery, where every baby has a dedicated crib, primary caregiver, and individualized feeding and nap schedule documented and shared with parents at pickup.
