An October 2021 grand opening on the second floor at 3580 Fifth Avenue established AHF Pharmacy - Flagship San Diego as the all-in-one anchor of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation's San Diego footprint in Hillcrest, sharing the building with an AHF Healthcare Center, an AHF Wellness Center, and an Out of the Closet thrift store. The full-service pharmacy fills antiretroviral therapy, PrEP, PEP, and chronic-disease prescriptions for both walk-in patients and established AHF members, with primary-care handoffs that route through neighborhood partners such as Hillcrest Family Health Center on Third Avenue. Co-location with the Wellness Center, the first AHF Wellness Center launched in San Diego County, lets patients move from a rapid HIV or STD test downstairs to a same-visit prescription consultation upstairs without leaving the building. Higher-acuity events route to inpatient care at Hillcrest Medical Center at UC San Diego Health three blocks west, the closest tertiary teaching hospital to the Fifth Avenue site. The most complex pharmacy workflows involve newly diagnosed patients starting first-line antiretroviral regimens, where the pharmacy team coordinates with the on-site Healthcare Center prescribers, runs Ryan White and copay assistance enrollment, and structures the first three months of adherence monitoring to drive viral load below the threshold of detection.
