About

Board-certified in both Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry, Jeanne E. Maglione, MD completed her medical degree, general psychiatry residency and geriatric psychiatry fellowship entirely within UC San Diego — graduating UCSD School of Medicine in 2006, finishing residency in 2010 and the geriatric fellowship in 2011. She now serves as Section Chief of Mental Health Integrative and Consultative Services at the VA San Diego Healthcare System while maintaining a Hillcrest practice at 140 West Arbor Drive, with research collaborations running through the UCSD Hillcrest Pulmonary and Sleep Research Laboratory on circadian rhythm and sleep-architecture contributions to late-life depression. Her published research covers obstructive sleep apnea cognition in Parkinson's disease, mitochondrial DNA heteroplasmy markers in geriatric depression, and PER3 and RORA circadian gene polymorphisms predicting depressive symptoms in older adults. She also contributes to oxytocin-augmented brief couples therapy trials for PTSD, building methodology overlap with the early-intervention research happening down the hall at the UC San Diego CARE Program. The hardest referrals involve a primary-care-integrated geriatric patient with comorbid Parkinson's disease, REM sleep behavior disorder, late-onset psychotic symptoms and an active VA disability claim all presenting in a single appointment slot.
