PhD-credentialed clinical psychologist trained through the SDSU/UC San Diego Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology, Dr. Shoshana Shea earned a National Research Service Award from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism for her doctoral dissertation and previously served as Assistant Clinical Professor in the UCSD Department of Psychiatry. From her Front Street office she runs San Diego Psychotherapy, Inc. using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, and CBT for stress, depression, weight, body image, eating, grief, and high-functioning autism in adults; clients seeking a different evidence-based behavioral fit are sometimes referred to Inspired Psychology. While at the VA San Diego Healthcare System she developed an ACT-based intensive outpatient curriculum for substance use disorders that is still in active use with veterans. Her adult autism-spectrum work overlaps with the early-intervention and school-age caseload at ACES Academy - Autism Education Center, creating a developmental-to-adult continuum of behavioral support across the corridor. She served as Chair of the Women's Committee for the San Diego Psychological Association and organized symposia on infertility and post-traumatic stress disorder. Her most layered cases are adults presenting with co-occurring eating-disorder behaviors, body-image dysphoria, and previously undiagnosed high-functioning autism requiring extended ACT and exposure-based work.
