Founded in San Diego in 2004, Luna Grill is a company-owned Mediterranean chain now operating over 50 locations, with the Hillcrest outpost at 350 University Ave. The open-flame grilling program — all kabobs marinated and cooked to order — uses a technique rooted in the founders' Greek and Iranian family recipes, a flame-forward method also central to the wood-fired flatbreads at FurnSaj Bakery & Restaurant on the Hillcrest corridor.
