USC School of Dentistry graduate and Keck School of Medicine alumnus Dr. Derek J. Havas, DDS, MD completed a six-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at LAC+USC Medical Center plus a one-year general surgery internship rotating through plastic surgery, otolaryngology, and trauma. He practices at the Center for Oral & Facial Surgery — established 1927 and the oldest OMS practice in San Diego County — at 306 Walnut Ave in Hillcrest, where implant cases needing prosthetic loading are coordinated with restorative practices including Dental Implant Centers. Havas is affiliated with Scripps Mercy Hospital, which allows him to handle medically complex patients requiring inpatient maxillofacial intervention. Pre-surgical CBCT imaging and 3D cone-beam scans are routed to Imaging Healthcare Specialists - Hillcrest when in-office volumetric data is insufficient for nerve mapping near the inferior alveolar canal. The practice covers full-arch zygomatic and pterygoid implant placement, corrective orthognathic jaw surgery, and reconstructive trauma cases referred from emergency departments across the county.
