About

Holding the longest continuous custom jewelry bench record in Hillcrest since 1969, Goldworks Gallery pairs in-house lapidary and gem-cutting with full antique jewelry restoration from its Park Boulevard storefront. Bench work covers hand-carved wax design, lost-wax casting, mirror polishing, and stone-setting for pieces ranging from Maine tourmalines to estate diamonds, with finishing and stone-setting commissions arriving from advanced metalsmith students completing training at San Diego Jewelry Academy. Antique jewelry restoration covers Victorian, Art Deco, and retro-era settings — re-tipping worn prongs and replacing missing gallery work without sanding away the original patina. In-house lapidary services include custom cabochon cutting and faceting of client-supplied rough, with raw specimen material sourced from the mineral and crystal inventory at Wonders Of Earth. Appraisal work extends to the Del Mar Antique Show circuit, valuing loose diamonds and estate jewelry for insurance documentation and auction consignment. The most complex projects handled at the bench are full heirloom redesigns — melting down inherited gold, re-cutting and re-polishing the original stones, and hand-fabricating contemporary settings that preserve the sentimental metal and gemstone material in a wearable new form.
