Performing Arts Workshop in Encinitas has provided classical ballet training on Encinitas Boulevard since 1996, offering instruction in ballet, pointe, variations, tap, lyrical, jazz, modern, and hip hop for students ages two through adult. The PAW Studio Company and Ballet Collective SD operate out of the same facility, staging productions at venues like La Paloma Theatre in Old Encinitas and The Lightbox Theater at Liberty Station. Alumni have gone on to train and perform with American Ballet Theatre, Alonzo King's LINES Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Boston Ballet, and Ballet West, placing the studio among the top pre-professional pipelines in North County San Diego. Annual productions include a full-length Nutcracker and a spring performance spanning all enrolled levels, with repertoire drawing from Vaganova, Bournonville, Cecchetti, and Royal Academy of Dance technique lineages. The studio's cross-training philosophy pairs ballet fundamentals with flexibility and breath-control methods taught at studios like Yoga Tropics along South Coast Highway 101, reinforcing the injury-prevention conditioning that supports advanced pointe and pas de deux work. Burklyn Ballet Theatre summer intensive auditions are hosted on-site, giving pre-professional students direct access to masterclass instruction from former ABT soloists training under multi-method Vaganova and Bournonville syllabi.
