Operating since 1954, Anderson's La Costa Nursery on La Costa Avenue in Encinitas's Leucadia community is one of San Diego County's oldest independent retail garden centers. The one-acre grounds stock more than 3,000 plant varieties — drought-tolerant natives, succulents, citrus, stone fruit, and tropical houseplants — supplying the specimen-grade material specified by landscape firms such as Falling Waters Landscape across North County. A 2,500-square-foot greenhouse houses orchids, bromeliads, ferns, fiddle-leaf figs, and rare indoor specimens sourced from a network of more than 70 Southern California specialty growers. Landscape design services complement the retail operation, providing planting plans, irrigation layout consultation, and garden-bed configuration for residential properties near Batiquitos Lagoon and the Leucadia coast. Irrigation system layouts designed on-site coordinate backflow-preventer placement and zone mapping with plumbing contractors such as Yogi's Plumbing & Drain Service for code-compliant residential installations. Hardscape inventory includes U.S.-manufactured fountains from Campania International and Al's Garden Art, hand-painted Talavera pottery, and custom-ordered Italian terracotta in dimensions up to 36 inches for estate-scale garden focal points.
