Maurizio's Trattoria Italiana occupies the corner of D Street and South Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas's Old Encinitas district, directly across from the La Paloma Theatre. Three Italian natives launched the trattoria in March 2020 with a menu built on homemade pastas and regional Italian preparations, including Orecchiette Salsiccia e Friarielli — small-ear pasta with sausage, rapini, and light cream — a dish rooted in the same Southern Italian tradition that informs the house-roasted coffee program at Pannikin Coffee & Tea in its historic Leucadia train station. Signature seafood preparations include Linguine ai Frutti di Mare with mussels, clams, calamari, and shrimp finished in white wine, garlic, and cherry tomatoes, and Salmon alla Livornese with capers, kalamata olives, and oregano in a white wine-marinara reduction. The sidewalk patio on Coast Highway 101 seats diners within view of the Moonlight Beach corridor, and a private dining room accommodates group events with organic dishes and a full cocktail bar. Polenta draped in Gorgonzola with sautéed mushrooms and white truffle oil anchors the antipasti menu alongside paper-thin beef carpaccio with arugula, building out a starter program on par with the brunch-driven kitchen at Honey's Bistro & Bakery on the same 101 corridor. The Cioppino pools mussels, clams, calamari, shrimp, and firm white fish in a slow-built tomato broth seasoned with saffron, fennel, and dried chili flake over house-made crostini.
