Salt Culture at 930 South Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas's Old Encinitas district is a globally inspired lifestyle boutique created by Sophie Machado and her husband, world-renowned pro surfer Rob Machado. Housed in a 1930s beach bungalow on the 101, the shop stocks men's and women's fashion from brands including Billini, Banbe, Lack of Color, and Reef alongside custom surfboards shaped by Rob Machado himself — placing the boutique's board program in the same shaping ecosystem as Encinitas Surfboards on the same highway. Sophie Machado serves as lead buyer and importer, curating an inventory that draws on the couple's travels to source textiles, home decor, and gifts reflecting diverse cultural influences. The home-furnishing side of the shop carries pieces from Indaba, Creative Co-op, Casa Amarosa, and Paddywax candles, a coastal-interior product line that complements the curated furniture selection at Grounded in the Encinitas design trade. Rob Machado's custom surfboard models displayed in-store are hand-shaped from Clark or US Blanks polyurethane foam with resin-tint finishes, glassed in four-plus-four-ounce fiberglass layups tailored to small-wave performance in North County reef breaks.
