Encinitas Street Maintenance, a division of the city's APWA-accredited Public Works Department, operates from 160 Calle Magdalena and maintains 172 miles of streets across the city's five communities. An eight-person field crew handles pothole patching, curb and gutter repair, sign installation, and drainage-channel clearing, while utility-cut restoration after underground work by Burtech Plumbing and other licensed contractors falls under the division's inspection and permitting authority. The City of Encinitas achieved American Public Works Association accreditation in 2010 — one of only 180 agencies nationally and 16 in California — and has maintained continuous re-accreditation through 2023. Contracted street sweeping covers 9,000 curb-miles annually, removing approximately 1,200 tons of litter and debris to prevent pollutants from entering the city's storm-drain system, while streetlight maintenance across roughly 3,000 fixtures coordinates electrical work with Encinitas Electric and other licensed electrical contractors. The division also administers the city's graffiti-abatement program in collaboration with Code Enforcement and the Sheriff's Department, and distributes sandbags from the 160 Calle Magdalena operations yard ahead of seasonal storm events.
