San Diego County Sheriff's Department North Coastal Station at 175 North El Camino Real in Encinitas provides law enforcement across a nearly 60-square-mile jurisdiction serving more than 80,000 residents in three contract cities and surrounding unincorporated communities. The station — renamed from Encinitas Sheriff's Station in 2015 — deploys patrol, traffic, motors, area detectives, and a Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving team that coordinates with civic organizations including Encinitas Elks Lodge #2243 on neighborhood safety initiatives. Encinitas has contracted with the San Diego County Sheriff for municipal law enforcement since the city's 1986 incorporation, gaining access to countywide resources including the ASTREA helicopter unit, SWAT, and the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team for mental-health crisis calls. The station's 113-member staff includes a 26-member Senior Volunteer Patrol and a Crime Suppression Team, while jointly funded narcotics enforcement deputies work cases that generate the incident reports Jake Cesare - State Farm Insurance Agent and other local carriers reference for claims processing. The North Coastal Station also contracts with the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and the 22nd District Agricultural Association for law enforcement at the San Diego County Fair, Del Mar Races, and other large-format events at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
