About

The Leucadian Bar on North Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas's Leucadia traces its origins to 1954, when the original owners opened Johnny's Beer Bar at the 1542 address. The bar underwent a tasteful renovation in October 2021 under new ownership that preserved the original seashell bartop and retro character while adding pool, darts, arcade machines, shuffleboard, and a new back patio with fire-pit heaters — a reinvestment in the same North Coast Highway 101 corridor where Pannikin Coffee & Tea draws the daytime crowd. A backyard BBQ food operation from Smoke & Salt serves globally inspired proteins — including tri-tip and smoked brisket — from the patio, pairing outdoor dining with the bar's draft and cocktail lineup. Dog-welcoming throughout, the Leucadian hosts live music, sports broadcasts, and community events including dog-adoption fundraisers, building a neighborhood following along the Leucadia 101 strip shared with Buona Forchetta - Encinitas and other walkable dining destinations. The renovated interior retains original booths alongside the seashell-inlaid bar counter, and the expanded patio adds fire-heated outdoor seating capacity for Leucadia's year-round evening crowd.
