About

Waterfront Park in downtown San Diego's Columbia district stretches 12 acres around the San Diego County Administration Center on Pacific Highway, a $49.4 million green-space conversion that replaced surface parking lots when it debuted in May 2014. An 830-foot interactive fountain with 31 jets shooting water 14 feet high defines the park's central axis, flanked by six civic lawns, themed garden rooms, a children's playground, and bocce-ball courts—family-recreation infrastructure that complements the café-lined public plaza at Piazza della Famiglia across Pacific Highway in Little Italy. The park sits between the Embarcadero waterfront and Little Italy, placing it within walking distance of the Maritime Museum, the cruise ship terminal, and the USS Midway Museum along the north end of downtown's bayfront pedestrian corridor. Annual programming includes the CRSSD music festival, Summer Movies in the Park, farmers' markets, and the county's Big Bay Boom Fourth of July viewing—event scales ranging from permitted festivals for thousands to private weddings, a multi-format calendar also running at Park at the Park near Petco Park in the East Village. The most logistically complex permitted events deploy full festival staging—concert sound systems, vendor buildouts, security perimeters, and crowd-management plans for capacities exceeding 3,000—across the park's civic lawns while maintaining public access to the fountain, gardens, and walkways.
