About

Harbor Island Park in downtown San Diego stretches along the north shore of a two-mile peninsula that the Port of San Diego created in 1961 from harbor dredging material. A 1.5-mile paved shoreline path connects walkers, joggers, and cyclists to uninterrupted bayfront views spanning from Point Loma to the Coronado Bridge, linking the park's linear greenway to the adjacent Spanish Landing Park (West) trail network. The peninsula's benches are aligned to face the downtown skyline across the bay, making it one of the least crowded vantage points for the annual Big Bay Boom fireworks display and the December Parade of Lights. Grassy picnic areas with palm cover and boulder-reinforced shoreline give the park a quieter character than the downtown Embarcadero's high-traffic attractions, though the bayfront path connects east to the waterfront corridor and Maritime Museum of San Diego. The park's largest permitted events require Port of San Diego coordination for gatherings of 25 or more, covering corporate outings, filming, drone operations, and private receptions staged on the lawn with the full skyline panorama as backdrop.
