About

San Diego Children's Choir in downtown San Diego trains young vocalists ages four through eighteen from its West Broadway offices, serving as the county's oldest and largest youth choral program since its 1990 founding. Ensemble choristers perform at more than 25 events per year in collaboration with San Diego Symphony, joining the orchestra's seasonal concert programming at Jacobs Music Center and singing the national anthem at Padres games near Petco Park. The curriculum applies Orff and Kodaly methods to teach solfege, rhythm sight-reading, movement, and improvisation, emphasizing head-voice technique as a foundation for healthy vocal production across styles. Five age-based ensembles, an early-years entry for children as young as four, and a school-outreach branch operate across four countywide rehearsal locations, feeding performers into a concert calendar that fills halls from Jacobs Music Center to waterfront stages like Concerts at The Shell on the Embarcadero. The most demanding performances deploy the full Premier Choir in choral-symphonic collaborations requiring sight-read mastery of multi-movement repertoire, including annual appearances in the San Diego Symphony's holiday and spring concert series.
