About

Tuna Harbor Park in downtown San Diego anchors the Embarcadero's Greatest Generation Walk with the 25-foot bronze Embracing Peace sculpture, a Seward Johnson work installed permanently in 2013 after the USS Midway Museum raised $1 million for the commission. The park's Tuna Lane pier serves as the staging ground for Tuna Harbor Dockside Market, where San Diego's commercial fishing fleet sells locally caught yellowtail, swordfish, and rockfish direct from the boats each Saturday. The $1.5 million National Salute to Bob Hope and the Military, dedicated in 2009, features 16 bronze figures by sculptors Eugene Daub and Steven Whyte -- Hope at a microphone surrounded by 15 service members in uniforms spanning World War II through the Persian Gulf War. Informational panels along the bayside promenade identify harbor seals, California sea lions, and Brandt's cormorants visible from the seawall, connecting the waterfront walk to the marine ecology of San Diego Bay. Tuna Harbor Park's position on the Embarcadero places it between Seaport Village to the south and the USS Midway Museum to the north, anchoring the midpoint of a continuous bayfront walking and cycling circuit. The park's open-lawn footprint and harbor-front seawall support permitted military commemorations, civic ceremonies, and large-scale waterfront event staging along San Diego Bay.
