About

SCORE in downtown San Diego's Columbia district provides free, confidential business mentoring from its West C Street offices, operating as a federally funded resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration since the national organization's founding in 1964. Volunteer mentors with backgrounds spanning 62 industries match one-on-one with entrepreneurs at every stage — from pre-revenue startups through established firms — through the same SBA service pipeline that runs through the U.S. Small Business Administration - San Diego district office. The chapter's CEO Forum convenes monthly half-day sessions where small-business owners work through operational challenges in a facilitated peer group, led by two SCORE mentors who guide problem-solving and skills development. A dedicated Veterans Committee partners with San Diego military installations to provide co-mentoring, workshops, and networking for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses pursuing entrepreneurship. Community Engagement outreach connects SCORE's mentoring, workshop, and public-speaking capacity to economic-development organizations across the county, including the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp. The chapter's most intensive engagement assigns one or more mentors matched by industry background to an existing business for ongoing strategic advising — a long-term relationship covering financing strategy, financial modeling, marketing, and operational scale-up across the full life of the business.
