About

Gaslamp Quarter Association in downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter is a 501(c)(6) merchants association chartered in 1982 under City of San Diego Ordinance No. 15647. The organization coordinates district marketing, streetscape maintenance, and event permitting across 16.5 blocks for more than 400 member businesses, operating as the city's second-oldest Business Improvement District alongside the broader Downtown San Diego Partnership clean-and-safe program. GQA manages the Gaslamp Quarter National Historic District designation through the City's Small Business Enhancement Program, overseeing signage standards, sidewalk-dining permits, and facade-improvement guidelines for the district's 90-plus Victorian-era commercial buildings along Fifth Avenue. Annual programming includes the Gaslamp Artisan Market and district-wide holiday activations produced with event coordinators like Gaslamp Event Management Inc on the same corridor. The association's highest-stakes operational work involves full-district street closures and vendor permitting for Comic-Con overflow programming and New Year's Eve block parties spanning Broadway to Harbor Drive.
