About

Balboa Park Hotel in downtown San Diego's Bankers Hill district completed a full-property renovation in 2024, rebuilding electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems across all 55 rooms of its Spanish-style building on Elm Street. Each unit features a kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave, and coffee station, giving the property an extended-stay footprint in the same Bankers Hill dining corridor as Hob Nob Hill on First Avenue. Originally built as the Hotel Occidental, the single-story structure now uses smart-lock keyless entry and provides loaner bicycles from a private courtyard garden. That courtyard anchors a cycling route toward Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo, passing neighborhood restaurants like CUCINA urbana along Laurel Street. The largest configurations are three-bedroom townhouse-style suites with separate private bathrooms, living areas, and full kitchens for groups of six.
