About

NewSchool of Architecture & Design in downtown San Diego carries the only NAAB accreditation south of Los Angeles for its Bachelor and Master of Architecture programs, training students on its urban 600 B Street campus since its 1980 founding. The five-year B.Arch and two- to three-year M.Arch curricula embed students in real-world studio projects with actual clients from their first semester, a practice-based pipeline into the profession that feeds directly into the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects - San Diego & Palomar. WASC regional accreditation and BPPE state licensing underpin additional programs in construction management, product design, graphic design and interactive media, and interior architecture & design, all delivered with a student-to-faculty ratio kept low in studio and major courses. STEM-designated degrees qualify F-1 graduates for extended OPT work authorization, and the Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure compresses the route from studio to NCARB certification — a documentation-heavy process that students research through the civic archives and building-permit records housed at the San Diego Central Library. The construction management track covers large-scale commercial estimating, BIM coordination, and LEED-certification processes, preparing graduates to oversee multimillion-dollar urban development projects.
