Sparks Gallery

Art Gallery & Museums

About

Sparks Gallery in downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter has operated as an Indigenous- and women-owned contemporary art gallery since 2013, occupying the historic Sterling Hardware Building at 530 Sixth Avenue between Island and Market streets. The gallery represents more than eighty Southern California artists working in painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media, with curatorial emphasis on surreal and impressionistic work that shares the Gaslamp's fine-art corridor with Art of Tim Cantor on the same stretch of blocks. The 348-capacity interior — outfitted with a mezzanine, elevator lift, restored original brick walls, and hardwood floors — doubles as a private event venue for weddings, corporate activations, and Comic-Con programming steps from the San Diego Convention Center. Exhibition curation extends beyond the gallery walls to juried shows organized for the Oceanside Museum of Art Artist Alliance, Allied Craftsmen of San Diego, and Cannon Art Gallery in Carlsbad, a regional institutional reach unmatched on Sixth Avenue except by the animation-estate programming at The Chuck Jones Gallery. The most significant collector transactions involve large-format original oils and commissioned sculpture acquired through the gallery's in-home art consultation service, which matches pieces to architectural specifications in both residential and commercial interiors.
