About

Casbah in downtown San Diego's Middletown district has anchored the city's independent music scene from 2501 Kettner Boulevard since 1989, booking live acts six to seven nights a week inside a 200-capacity room. The stage that launched early San Diego shows by Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, and the White Stripes still operates as a springboard for emerging talent, feeding into the same Kettner Boulevard corridor where Craft & Commerce draws the pre-show crowd. Casbah Presents now extends beyond the original room, programming concerts at larger venues across the city to follow artists as they outgrow the intimate format. Cover charges typically range from free to twenty dollars, and the room stocks a full bar, pool table, and fenced outdoor patio — a compact layout distinct from the multi-level staging at Music Box further downtown. The booking calendar routinely mixes reunion runs by legacy San Diego punk and indie bands with first-ever West Coast dates for touring acts at the breakout stage of their careers.
