Solunto Restaurant & Bakery

Italian & Pizza

About

Solunto Restaurant & Bakery in downtown San Diego's Little Italy traces its bread-baking roots on India Street to 1950, when Sicilian founder Mario Cefalù named the operation after an ancient Greek hilltop city in his native Sicily. The original Cefalù bread recipe still runs through the ovens daily alongside Neapolitan pizzas, arancini, and fresh pastries, producing the kind of from-scratch Italian baked goods that anchor Little Italy's dessert corridor alongside Extraordinary Desserts on India Street. A 2016 renovation under new ownership added a full ristorante menu with ossobuco, handmade pastas, and tiramisu while preserving the mosaic-tiled bakery counter and wood-fired production. The espresso bar pulls Italian roasts to pair with house sfogliatelle and cannoli, adding a cafe-and-pastry counter that complements the artisan baking at IZOLA further up India Street. A 13-flavor gelato bar churns seasonal and classic Italian varieties in-house, rounding out a single-address operation that spans bakery, pizzeria, cocktail bar, and full-service ristorante under one roof.
