About

Mostra Coffee in downtown San Diego's Bankers Hill is a Filipino-American-owned micro-roaster founded in 2013 with a sourcing program built to elevate Philippine specialty coffee and support farming communities across the archipelago. The head roaster — a former chef at Michelin-starred restaurants — developed the profiles that earned the company a Roast Magazine Roaster of the Year title and a U.S. Chamber of Commerce Top 100 Small Business designation in the Disruptor category, credentials that few San Diego micro-roasters outside Goldchild Coffee Roasters can match in the downtown landscape. The company is women-, minority-, veteran-, and immigrant-owned, with co-founders spanning opera, television, culinary arts, and military service. A percentage of Philippine-origin retail bag sales funds infrastructure and education projects for the farming families who grow the beans. The Fourth Avenue cafe anchors the morning coffee trade at the northern end of Bankers Hill's dining row, feeding the same pre-dinner foot traffic that fills CUCINA urbana a few blocks south each evening. Mostra's most technically demanding work is its craft-brewery collaboration program — over 1,000 unique beer recipes developed with top-100 breweries across 35 states, each requiring custom roast profiles calibrated to specific fermentation and flavor targets.
