About

Captivate Church - Downtown Campus in downtown San Diego launched its G Street gathering in September 2024 as the third permanent campus of a Wesleyan-affiliated church founded in Point Loma in 2018. The downtown location runs a monthly evening format with worship music, teaching, and community meals — a weeknight option that complements the daytime street-level ministry Open Ministry delivers in the adjacent Gaslamp Quarter. Captivate's parent body operates through the Water's Edge network and centers its mission on what the organization calls ending spiritual loneliness, citing data that fewer than five percent of San Diego residents belong to a church community. The organization also runs Captivate Academy and deploys a Corner Card relational-tracking system designed to ensure no attendee goes uncontacted between gatherings. That small-group pipeline feeds Captivate's Multiply initiative, which aims to plant additional campuses across San Diego, channeling community-meal volunteers into the same downtown outreach network that includes The Salvation Army Centre City Corps on Seventh Avenue. The most resource-intensive element of each new campus launch is securing and equipping urban worship venues, a process requiring commercial lease negotiation, portable sound-system deployment, and city permitting for assembly-occupancy use in mixed-use buildings.
