About

OTJ Architects in downtown San Diego operates from West A Street as one of seven national offices for the Washington, D.C.–headquartered architecture and interior design practice founded in 1990, fielding a staff of more than 200 across the firm. The San Diego studio's project pipeline includes a proposed 16-story, 265-unit residential tower at 10th Avenue and E Street in the East Village—a transit-first development with ground-floor retail and cementitious podium construction—and interior design for the Pacific Gate residences, high-rise and multifamily typologies also produced downtown by DLR Group in the Gaslamp Quarter. Nationally, OTJ's signature projects include the renovation of the iconic Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, D.C., the Cincinnati Music Hall restoration, and corporate workplaces for Adobe, BMW, PBS, and Yelp. The firm holds GSA Schedule contracts and SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility) design clearance, enabling federal government and defense-sector work that most commercial architecture practices cannot access. That intelligence-based design methodology—leveraging occupancy studies, predictive analytics, and immersive virtual reality—informs workspace and institutional projects at the same data-driven rigor applied by peer national firms at SmithGroup on West Broadway. The San Diego office's highest-complexity work involves ground-up mixed-use residential towers with integrated life-science laboratory floors, transit-oriented density entitlements, and LEED-targeted building envelopes calibrated to Southern California's coastal climate zone.
