About

Located at 1670 Coast Blvd, Del Mar, CA 92014, Poseidon on the Beach is an oceanfront seafood restaurant with roots stretching back to 1968 when Greek immigrant Tom Ranglas Sr. purchased the property, then known as The Fire Pit, for $48,500. Ranglas had arrived in the United States without speaking English and borrowed money from his mother to make the deal, spending five years paying her back. That immigrant-family story still shapes the restaurant today under the leadership of his son, Tom Ranglas Jr., who started working at Poseidon when he was just 15 years old. A major remodel around 2004 transformed the space into the modern seafood restaurant visitors know today, and the senior Ranglas visited twice daily until his passing in 2018. The menu centers on fresh coastal cuisine with dishes like seared sea bass, lobster, calamari appetizers, and the seafood Cobb salad, all designed to let quality ingredients stand on their own. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 3:30 PM to 6 PM at the bar with drink and appetizer specials. Weekend brunch on Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 AM is a popular draw, and reservations are strongly recommended for all meal periods since the restaurant frequently has a wait. The heated outdoor patio offers unobstructed Pacific views and is one of the most photographed sunset dining spots in Del Mar. Hours are Monday through Friday 11 AM to 9 PM and Saturday through Sunday 10 AM to 9 PM. Poseidon sits just steps from its neighbor Jake's Del Mar at 1660 Coast Blvd, and together the two restaurants anchor Del Mar's beachfront dining scene. The restaurant also participates in community events like the annual Red Nose Run, with proceeds going to Semper Fi/America's Fund. Valet parking is available but fills up quickly on weekends, so arriving early or using street parking is recommended. Guests who want coffee before or after their meal can walk to Stratford Court Cafe just a few blocks inland on Stratford Court.
