Mary's Tack and Feed is a legendary equestrian supply store at 3675 Via De La Valle, Del Mar, CA 92014, founded by Mary Hammond in 1963 on the corner of Via De La Valle and El Camino Real, just down the road from the Del Mar Fairgrounds. What started as a 600-square-foot shop where saddles had to be moved outside just so customers could browse has grown into a nearly 12,000-square-foot retail destination. Mike Mosley purchased the business from Hammond in 1976 and built the current wooden pole barn structure in 1984, relocating across the street and vastly expanding the inventory. In 2021, Mosley transitioned Mary's into an Employee Stock Ownership Plan, putting the store on a path to becoming 100% employee owned. The shop stocks English and Western saddles, bridles, bits, grooming supplies, supplements, riding apparel from paddock boots and breeches to cowboy boots and fashion jackets, plus equestrian-themed gifts, Breyer model horses, home decor, and jewelry. A full feed, bedding, and hay department delivers daily to local ranches and barns throughout Southern California. Mary's also carries pet food, dog toys, poultry supplies, and chicken treats, broadening its appeal beyond the equestrian crowd. The store employs roughly 40 team members, most of whom are active riders, and offers custom tall boot measuring, engraving services, and tack trunk customization. Oprah Magazine once called Mary's first when it needed equestrian gear for a photo shoot. The shop sees heavy traffic during show seasons at the nearby Del Mar Horsepark, which run from March through November. Flower Hill Promenade is roughly a mile west on Via De La Valle for riders looking to grab lunch between barn visits. Mary's Tack and Feed is open Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM.
