The Cottage Del Mar

Coffee & Tea

About

Originally founded in La Jolla in 1985 by Nanci Long, The Cottage Del Mar is a breakfast and brunch restaurant at 1555 Camino Del Mar, Suite 102, inside Del Mar Plaza (92014). Co-owners Jason Peaslee and Bernardo Kanarek acquired the brand in 2018, expanded to Encinitas in 2022, and opened this Del Mar outpost in July 2024. Ikedo Design handled the roughly 2,000-square-foot build-out for about 80 guests, knocking down a wall to create an indoor-outdoor flow with accordion doors, ocean breezes, and a white picket fence that fits Del Mar's beach cottage character. Sharing the ground floor of the plaza with High Marea, The Cottage fills a gap for dedicated morning dining in a block that had long skewed toward dinner service. The menu features lemon ricotta pancakes, brioche French toast, the Eggs La Jolla Benedict with Canadian bacon, balsamic mushrooms, spinach, and roasted tomato, chilaquiles with house-made guajillo sauce, and a pork belly Benedict that reviewers regularly call a standout. Lunch options include the Milanese chicken sandwich, capellini crab cakes, and fish tacos with mahi mahi or shrimp. The house granola is a vegan, gluten-free mix popular enough to ship nationwide, and coffees are roasted at the Encinitas location and delivered fresh to Del Mar. Soju-based cocktails, mimosas, and cold-pressed juices round out the drinks list. The restaurant is open daily from 7:30 AM to 3 PM, accepts reservations, and earned a 97 out of 100 health score. Dogs are welcome on the patio, and two hours of free parking are available in the attached garage. Evening diners looking for cocktails and California cuisine often head upstairs to Sbicca after their morning Cottage fix. With three locations now running across the San Diego coast, the brand continues to draw brunch crowds who have followed it since the La Jolla days.
