About

VADM Martin Fitness Center is a 107,000-square-foot military gym on Coronado Island, housed in Building 1507 on Rogers Road at Naval Air Station North Island — the largest fitness facility in the Navy's San Diego MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) network. Named after Vice Admiral Edward H. Martin, the two-story facility houses a free-weight floor, machine circuit, cardio deck on the upper level, CrossFit training area, three racquetball courts, a full-size gymnasium with basketball and volleyball courts, yoga rooms, and a parent-child fitness section. The Rogers Road campus also includes the VADM Martin MWR Liberty Center, which provides a game room, mini-theater, TV lounge, and computer lab for service members. The building's capacity is rated at 3,167 occupants, and the cardio floor alone spans the entire second story — large enough that equipment wait times are rare even during peak training hours. Access is available to active-duty service members, reservists, retirees, military dependents, DoD civilians, and civilian contractors assigned to North Island Naval Air Station, with a visitor day pass priced at five dollars. The 92118 facility is staffed around the clock, providing continuous Coronado gym access that accommodates the irregular schedules of flight crews, maintenance shifts, and SEAL training rotations based on the island. The attached pool complex runs water fitness classes, swim instruction, and lap swim through the Brian Bent Memorial Aquatics Complex, with free active-duty swim lessons available weekday mornings. For off-base Coronado Island residents without military installation access, civilian gyms along the Orange Avenue and C Avenue corridors offer memberships and drop-in classes. The design-build structure was engineered specifically for military fitness requirements, with reinforced flooring for Olympic lifting platforms and ceiling height clearances for rope climbs and gymnastics movements.
