About

Coronado Swim — Team Elite operates as a year-round competitive swim program in Coronado, registered with USA Swimming and recognized as a Bronze Medal Club. Founded in 1963 as the Coronado Navy Swim Association, the program has trained swimmers from beginner to elite level for over six decades, producing athletes who compete at regional, sectional, and national championship levels. The south training facility at 1845 Strand Way uses the 50-meter pool at the Coronado Community Center on Glorietta Bay, where athletes perform both in-water training and dryland conditioning at adjacent Coronado High School athletic facilities at 650 D Avenue. Training groups progress from introductory technique development through Silver, Gold, and Senior tiers, with each group building toward age-group qualification standards and college recruitment preparation — a pipeline the coaching staff frames around the belief that a collegiate swim program exists for every committed high school swimmer at the NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA level. The team also trains at Brian Bent Memorial Aquatics Complex at 818 Sixth Street, giving CSTE athletes access to both a bay-side and a village-side pool on Coronado Island within the 92118 ZIP. Seasonal programs include the Nado Summer Swim session for recreational and new competitive swimmers, and the team hosts the Coronado Swim Series, an open-water competition that draws entrants from across Southern California. The coaching staff holds CrossFit, sport-psychology, and dryland-training certifications in addition to USA Swimming coaching credentials, layering strength and conditioning work into a program that extends beyond pool-only instruction. Rehabilitation and sports-medicine support for competitive swimmers is available through the island's medical network, including the orthopedic and wellness practitioners at Sharp Coronado Hospital Sewall Healthy Living Center on the same side of Coronado Island. Bring-a-friend practice days, parent communication updates, and value-based recognition programs round out the team culture beyond the racing schedule.
