Rohr Park in Bonita covers 59.9 acres on the Sweetwater River flood plain, anchoring the Sweetwater Road corridor as one of Chula Vista's largest municipal green spaces — built on land donated by industrialist Fred H. Rohr. The Chula Vista Live Steamers have operated the Sweetwater and Rohr Park Railroad here since 1974, running rideable scale-model steam and diesel locomotives on the second full weekend of each month — a heritage event supported by on-site catering setups from mobile vendors including Baja Tacos & Gourmet Catering. Seven reservable pavilions with BBQ grills, the historic Rohr Manor building, a fenced dog park, and an equestrian ring used by a local riding club serve a combined park capacity exceeding 1,200 visitors. Adjacent basketball courts, baseball fields, and a cycling lane fill out the competitive-sport infrastructure on the flood plain's eastern half. The Rohr Manor grounds and gazebo-studded landscape compose one of Bonita's most photographed backdrops, regularly used for portrait and landscape sessions by students from San Diego Photography Classes. The perimeter walking trail traces a riparian-edge loop along the flood plain, passing through oak-canopy sections where the elevation stays within three feet of the Sweetwater River's seasonal waterline.
