Otay Lakes County Park in Chula Vista's southeastern corridor spans 78 acres along the southern shore of Lower Otay Reservoir, serving as the proposed eastern gateway to the larger Otay Valley Regional Park. The park shares the county's 11-mile inland trail network with Sweetwater Summit Regional Park, connecting San Diego Bay salt ponds to the Otay Lakes basin through contiguous riparian habitat. Birdwatchers have documented more than 200 species on and around the property, including red-shouldered hawks and cormorants that nest along the reservoir shoreline. Horseshoe pits, a native-plant demonstration garden, and a playground with a fenced tot lot round out the recreational infrastructure beyond the trail system. Three host campsites provide full hookups — electricity, water, and sewer — a rarity among South Bay parks that draws overnight visitors exploring the rolling terrain east of the Chula Vista Golf Course & Venue. The summit trail gains roughly 100 feet of elevation over a half-mile out-and-back route, topping out at a ridgeline overlook with unobstructed views of Lower Otay Reservoir, San Miguel Mountain, and the Otay Valley Regional Park corridor.
