Quadruple-board-certified neonatologist and clinical geneticist Dr. Anna-Kaisa Niemi practices in Chula Vista through Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego, holding certifications in pediatrics, neonatal-perinatal medicine, clinical genetics, and medical biochemical genetics. An associate professor of pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine, she manages neonatal metabolic emergencies including hyperammonemia cases that require NICU-level intervention at facilities such as Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center. She earned her MD from the University of Oulu in Finland in 2003, completed her PhD in 2005, and finished fellowships in clinical genetics, medical biochemical genetics, and neonatal-perinatal medicine at Stanford University. Her published research on mitochondrial DNA polymorphisms and longevity appears in the European Journal of Human Genetics, and she has contributed to genome-based newborn screening studies with developmental follow-up coordinated through providers such as Advanced Therapy Services. Clinical evaluations at her H Street office incorporate tandem mass spectrometry newborn-screening interpretation, organic-acid and amino-acid profiling, and whole-exome sequencing analysis for neonates presenting with inborn errors of metabolism.
