About

As the first LGBTQ+ and nonbinary youth drop-in facility in Chula Vista's South Bay, South Bay Youth Center has served young people ages 10 through 24 from its Third Avenue location since 2019. Run by The San Diego LGBT Community Center, the site at 1180 Third Avenue provides support groups, a computer lab, and mental-health resources in the same civic corridor as Chula Vista Public Library Civic Center Branch. Age-segmented programming runs separate sessions for middle-school youth (10 to 13), high-school youth (14 to 18), and transitional-age youth (18 to 24), each with dedicated drop-in schedules throughout the week. Services extend beyond social activities to include health education, leadership training, creative and performing arts, and referrals to The Center's countywide behavioral-health counseling and housing-navigation programs. Transitional-age participants preparing for post-secondary education or vocational certification access career-readiness resources coordinated with South Bay educational institutions, among them Chula Vista Adult School. The facility stocks gender-affirming supplies, sexual-health materials, hygiene products, and a community closet providing clothing to youth across the 91911 ZIP code and surrounding areas.
