Hope Sports in Chula Vista is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a dual mission: connecting competitive athletes to community service and building homes for low-income families in Mexico and Central America. The Bay Boulevard office has coordinated service trips for more than 1,000 pro-level and Division I college athletes, staging departures from the same South Bay corridor that includes Chula Vista Golf Course & Venue. Nine Olympic national teams along with programs from USC, University of San Diego, Baylor, and Wheaton College have participated in Hope Sports homebuilding expeditions since the organization's founding. Each trip pairs athletic team-building exercises with hands-on construction — framing walls, pouring foundations, and installing roofing — producing over 50 completed homes, a model of sport-plus-service programming that extends to youth recreation at Chula Vista Recreation Center. Standard build timelines run five to seven days per home, with teams erecting 400-to-600-square-foot single-family structures using reinforced concrete-block construction rated for seismic Zone 3 conditions.
