Alayo Foundation in Chula Vista's Third Avenue Village is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 87-2681776) established in 2021 to deliver free preventative health screenings to underserved residents of the South Bay. Screening events run alongside the Gastro SB clinical practice at 587 Third Avenue, providing lipid panels, liver function tests, glucose and HbA1c diabetes markers, blood pressure checks, hemoglobin measurement, EKGs, and liver-fibrosis ultrasounds at no cost — diagnostics that feed into the broader safety-net network anchored by Chula Vista Family Health Center. The foundation pairs each screening with dietetic education, connecting participants to nutritional counseling resources that address the metabolic and gastrointestinal conditions identified during intake. More than 200 individuals have received free laboratory services through the program, expanding access in a ZIP code where many residents rely on community organizations such as South Bay Community Services for referrals to primary and preventative care. The screening protocol covers a nine-point diagnostic battery — lipid panel, liver function, fasting glucose, HbA1c, BMI calculation, hemoglobin, blood pressure, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and transient elastography for hepatic fibrosis staging — completed in a single walk-in visit without fasting requirements.
